First of all sorry for writing in english but maybe someone can reply, if not please delete my topic...

Anyway I have connected my Atari1040STe through RF cable to my TV and the picture looks like this:

How can I get full colour display on my TV? Is it even possible? Is my machine just black&white?

I dunno anythin' about games but Atari1040STe connected to TV-set through RF cable (antenna) should give normal colour picture.

Actually I have an STe that makes strange things and has problems with colour, so maybe You have similar problems too. Supposedly it might be related with some adjustable capacitor on-board.

PS I am just a lucky owner of one of these machines and coincidentally a big fan of Dungeon Master game (which made debut on ST) so I wanted to experience the game on the original hardware. I know nothing about other capabilities of this system.

You can always try to connect your atari using monitor output and Scart or S-Video input in your TV (if you have one). Picture should look much much better than via RF cable.

I don't have the cable with that weird monitor plug but I can try to solder a wire to the composite output pin.
But since I have very clean output using RF, I don't think it's necessary. The only thing I'm missing is the colour.

Don't solder the wire to composite output. As I remember composite out works only with machines that has a RF modulator. So if it's modulator fault it won't work either.

Solder or buy SCART cable for your machine. It always way better than RF output. Din 13 plug is used to connect Kenwood disc charger so you can find it in electronic / car-audio shop.

I have found only two turnable things inside of my STe:

And I believe the blue one is for the oscillator (the near-by crystal).
The one pictured on the left made no difference when turning, I haven't touched the blue one yet.

On that scart cable you mean RGB output? I think I will try to get that Din13 somewhere and build it. Thanks for the link though, I will think about buying the ready-made cable (damn I'm so broke)!

Or buy a ready-made cable :) They are very good quality, I'm using one myslelf.

Hello guys
A great while ago I was trying to fix this wrong-color issue on my 1040STE.
Since then I aquired a SCART cable with all the connections to get a RGB output on my screen.
But that haven't solved my issue. As you can see in the attachments, the colors are off, it looks like my Atari needs to tweak the R G B colors a bit, because now it's kinda yellow-green, and it should look like the attached screenshot from emulator.
My board looks quite clean, but maybe the problem can be solved by re-capping (replacing all capacitors), or maybe disconnecting the RF box, or maybe the input voltage is bad (there is a trimmer on the power board)  ...I am just throwing out ideas, maybe somebody can help me somehow.

Recapping won't help there. You are missing most of the red and all blue component, so it is likely to be a problem with a Q400, Q402 or around them.

Everything around there seems to be fine. Those transistors are connected to J400, a 13pin chip, can that be the problematic component?

J400 is the monitor connector, not a chip. If colors are also missing over a composite video and RF output - monitor connector can't be a problem.

How do you assume that "everything around there seems to be fine". You need to have an oscilloscope to verify the signals, or remove these transistors and test them off circuit, using a transistor tester. On board, you can check all the resistors between GSTShifter and those transistors, up to the connector.

Ah yes sorry my bad about the chip, I see it goes to the U401, the GSTShifter.
Yes I can do the measurements of the smaller components. Hope the problem lies there.
Maybe I'll start with reseating the U401 just to be sure it's not bad contact... is that a good idea?

The connector can't be a problem if the issue persists over the RF modulator.

There is also a slight chance that a faulty MC1377 (U403) is causing this problem.

Yes I understand that, connector looks fine, RF has the same issue. But the GSTShifter chip is in a socket and that may cause some problems, so I thought about removing and re-seating it might not be a bad idea to start with.

I see the mc1377 is a chip that is available on aliexpress, so might not be so bad if that is going to be the problem.

Start with re-seating the GSTShifter. MC1377 is extremely unlikely to cause this issue, but if it is socketed, you can remove it. RGB will work without it (but not with EURO cable), as you will lose also composite video/composite sync.

Well reseating and cleaning of the shifter didn't help, I also removed and measured all 3 transistors on the RGB path as well as measured all the resistors there. Mc1377 is not socketed so removing it will be a little harder.
No change at all....
